Situated on the southern bank of the Cauveri river in Chozha Nadu (Thenkarai), this is the 51st Shiva Sthalam and one of the 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams. This Sri Yazhmurinathar Temple at Dharumapuram Lord Shiva is a Swayambumurthi or self-manifested. This east-facing temple features two corridors and a five-tiered central tower known as Rajagopuram. Maha Kumbabishekam, the most recent consecration ceremony, was held on February 9, 2017, and it was held on April 20, 1969, before that. Her mother, Saint Thiru Neelakanda Yazhpanar, was born here. One of the 63 Nayanmars is Yazhpanar.
History of the Temple
This is one of the 27 temples that Dharumapuram Aadheenam is in charge of administratively.
The temple’s deities
In the corridors, one can find shrines and idols of the following lords: Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy; Murugan with his consorts; Somaskanthar; Lingothbavar; Mahavishnu; Brahma; Natarajar; Dakshinamurthy; Nalvars; Santhana Kuravars; 63-Nayanmars; Chandrasekaran; Kasi Viswanathar with Visalakshi; Durgai; Chandikeswarar; Navagraham; Suryan, Chandiran, and Bairavar.
Lord Yazhmurinathar is shown holding a Yazh in his hands and is accompanied by Thirugnanasambanthar and Yazhpanar in his procession idol. These are both really lovely, as is the procession idol of Lord Yama.
Important Elements
The song of Saint Thirugnanasambanthar honors the melodic voice of Goddess Parvathy and the musical composition of Lord Shiva. It is thought that Lord Dakshinamurthy regained his appreciation for the performance when Lord Shiva performed the Yaazh. Lord Dakshinamurthy is portrayed in this instance as learning because of this.
Lord Mahavishnu and Lord Brahma are depicted as idols in a worshipping position on either side of Lord Lingothbavar, behind the sanctum sanctorum. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are the three lords (Trimurthys) from whom devotees can have darshan. This is seen as highly fortunate. The founder of the Dharumapura Adheenam, the esteemed Guru Gnanasambanthar, has a shrine here.
The magnificence of this temple
In Sri Yazhmurinathar Temple, Lord Shiva and Lord Dakshinamurthy are worshipped by those who aspire to be great musicians. On the days of the “Utharada” nakshatra, people who are dealing with “Puthra doshas,” or issues pertaining to the welfare of their children, can worship Goddess Durgai here.
