Tiruttani Murugan Temple is one of the Arupadaiveedu, dedicated to Lord Muruga located in the hill of Thiruttani, Tamilnadu. The hill has 365 steps, which indicates 365 days of the year. Thiruttani contributes one among the Six Abodes of Lord Murugan representing the site where lord subramanya settled after demolishing the demon surapadman. In this temple, Lord Muruga doesn’t hold any weapon as he is in pleasant mood with no war plans. Instead, he has Vajra Hastam found in his right hand, which will produce a sound like thunder. There are individual shrines for Valli & Deivanai. Instead of peacock, elephant is found to be vehicle of Lord Muruga, which also faces the opposite side. The sandal paste utilized to worship in this Murugan Temple has a divine significance. Devotees won’t put this sandal Prasadam on their forehead, yet dissolve in water and then consume it, because it is assumed that it would cure any disease. This prasadam is given only on the festive days. Behind the sanctum sanctorum, Sri Aadhi Balasubramania is graced on the wall with Akshara Mala and Kamandala. During the month of Marghazi, abishek is done with hard water, since this seems to be the winter season. The shrine of Lord Bhairava is also found in this temple with 4 dogs as vehicle, which represents four Vedas. Those who want to achieve academic excellence should pray here. There is a sacred tank called “Saravana Poikai”, which have curative effect for both physical and mental ailments. Festivals like Panguni Uthiram and Thai poosam are celebrated grandly.
