Kanaka Durga Temple is a Hindu temple devoted to Kanaka Durga, also called Sri Kanaka Durgamma Devasthanam. The goddess housed within this temple is also often known as Kanaka Durga. Situated on the banks of the Krishna River in the Indrakeeladri Hills, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India is home to the temple. Kanaka Durga is referenced in the Kaalika Purana, Durgaa Sapthashati, and other Vedic writings on the Indrakeelaadri. In Triteeya Kalpa, the deity is referred to as Swayambhu or self-manifested.
The temple was constructed by King Gopinath and is thought to be around 500 years old. The goddess Kanak Durga’s idol appeared to the king in a dream, and he constructed her temple. Kanak, the idol, is two feet tall and entirely composed of gold, as the name would imply. It is said that during the royal era, human sacrifice played a crucial role in rituals. The hours of the Kanaka Durga Temple are 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The temple is open Friday and Saturday from 4 a.m. until 10 p.m. additionally; private automobiles are not permitted between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The temple offers three distinct types of darshanam: Antrayam Darshan, Mukha Mandapam, and Dharma Darshan, which are open from 6.15 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from 4:00 a.m. to 5.45 p.m., respectively.
At Antaryala, Swarnapushparchana Puja is held every Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
During Navratri, Kanaka Durga is adorned in various ways to symbolize many deities. The deities are transported along the Krishna River in a swan-shaped boat on Vijaya Dasami, the last day of Navaratri, a tradition known as “Theppotsavam.”
