Annavaram Temple

Located on Ratnagiri hill, Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple is 2 km from Annavaram Railway Station. The Pampa River encircles the 300-foot-tall Ratnagiri hill, which is covered in a lot of greenery. From the bottom of the hill, there are about 460 stone steps that lead to the temple. It is believed that when Satyanarayana Vratam is performed here, all the wishes of devotees will be fulfilled.

In 1891, Raja Ramanarayana, the zamindar of the Gorsa and Kirlampudi estates, built this temple in the Dravidian style. It is said that the Lord gave the order to build the temple in his dream. After following the idol up the hill, he installed it there and gave it worship. The temple was then rebuilt in 1933–1934 and again in 2011–2012. History claims that during his invasion of Kalinga, Sri Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara attacked the enemy using the covert tunnels located beneath the hills. When Alluri Seetharama Raju rebelled against British rule, he used the hidden quarters located in these hill ranges.

The main temple was built with four wheels at each of its four corners, resembling a chariot. The Kalyana Mantapa, which is in front of the main temple, was built and embellished with contemporary architectural elements. In the temple, Lord Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy is the ruling deity. It is Ananta Lakshmi Satyavathi Devi who is the goddess. By the grace of Lord Vishnu, Meru, the Lord of the Hills, and his consort Menaka are said to have performed great penance and conceived two sons, Ratnakara and Bhadra.

Because of Bhadra’s devotion and penance, Lord Vishnu was pleased, and Bhadra became Bhadrachalam, the place where Lord Sri Rama had settled. In an attempt to imitate his brother, Ratnakara was able to appease Lord Vishnu by settling on him as Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy. Ratnakara then changed his name to Ratnagiri Hill.

The Lord’s peetham and yantra are located on the ground floor of the temple, which has two stories. There are four deities on the four sides of the yantra: Maheswara, Ganapati, Suryanarayana, and Bala Tripurasundari. On the first floor, Lord Satyanarayana Swamy’s Moola Virat is positioned in the middle, with the image of Goddess Anantha Lakshmi to his right and Lord Shiva to his left. The 13-foot idol of Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva is a special draw. The Devi Navaratri festival, pratyangira devi, Teppa Utsavam, Jwalatoranam, Kanakadurga Yatra, Srirama Kalyanam, and Kalyanam in April and May are among the festivals observed here.
