One of the oldest movie theaters in Puducherry, Balaji Theatre is also believed to be the first to showcase a 70mm film in the city. Located on the Kamraj Salai, the theater showcases Tamil movies only and caters to the local populace. While the building’s exteriors show signs of age, the air-conditioned screening hall has been well-maintained. Going by the advent of new glitzy multiplexes with plush facilities, one would imagine that the days of such cinemas are over. However, one look at the box-office queue is sure to change this perception. The theater remains one of the city’s all-time favorites. The movie theaters serve a wide range of reasonably priced small snacks and beverages. They have one of the biggest parking lots in the city and provide easy access for customers.
